Annual Public Auction FMCPT member Kevin
Wright worked with members of the Tri-County Triangle Trail in
Chillicothe, and developed the idea for our 1st Annual Public Auction,
which took place in May of 2003. After years of delays and
frustration, we were amazed at the overwhelming show of support and
enthusiasm from the community. It has been very gratifying to see
how much the community recognizes the value in the trail and in our
work.
Our auction has become an annual event, and generates the vast majority
of our funding. Our auction proceeds have allowed us to pledge
$10,000 toward completion of paving of the trail segment from Maple
Street to Wilson Road.
A placard is displayed in the front window that lists the many
contributors to our auction, but there are many other individuals who
made the event possible. Thanks to Todd Lane, Executive Director
of the Madison County Senior Center, for donating his time during the
event, and for allowing us to conduct the auction at the Senior Center
facility. A big thanks to Richard McKenzie, who worked closely
with the Madison County Senior Center to coordinate the event.
Richard and his wife Ruth were also responsible for 90% of the items
donated by the community. Senior Center staff member John
Hastings was also instrumental in helping with the details of the
event. Thanks to FMCPT member Frank Slagle for providing signs to
help publicize our event.
Another important aspect of our auction was advertising. Thanks
to all of our sponsors who provided funding for all of of advertising,
including Buckleys, Ted Hankins Realty, Crain Construction, Huntington
Banks, and Wilson Printing and Graphics.
Thanks to all of the auctioneers and their staff who donated their time
for the event, including Tim and Bill Beathard, Lloyd Arnett, Geoff
Smith, and last but not least - special thanks to the late Don Wilson.
