2 - Ribbon Cutting Ceremony     Finally, the day we had all been dreaming of, after years of delays and frustration!  The London to South Charleston segment of the Ohio to Erie Trail opened on June 26, 2004 - a significant milestone in the Ohio to Erie Trail project.

On an absolutely perfect summer day, approximately 100 people were on hand to celebrate, including local, county and state dignitaries.  State Representative Chris Widener, Madison County Commissioners David Dhume, Chris Snyder and Bob Hackett, London Mayor David Eades, and local law enforcement officials were all in attendance.  Madison County Engineer Dave Brand made the round trip from London to South Charleston on in-line skates.

Madison County Commissioner David Dhume highlighted the ceremony by thanking Ed Honton and the Ohio to Erie Trail Fund for the "overwhelming gift" of a million dollar park system to Madison County and the City of London.

Thanks to Blue Shoe Flowers of Young Farms, the trailhead was beautifully decorated with flowers.  Randy Young of Madison Tent Rental provided a tent at cost.  Columbus disc jockey Pat Stuhldreher of "Dusty Discs" donated his time to provide musical entertainment.  FirstMerit Bank of London donated free bottled water.  Refreshments were made available by Lanigan's Catering.  Thanks to all who made our ceremony a huge success!

Another highlight of the ceremony was the dedication of the footbridge constructed by the Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails, appropriately named "McKenzie Bridge" in honor of Richard and Ruth McKenzie.  Richard and Ruth have been relentless in their involvement in all FMCPT fund raising activities.

During the ceremony, FMCPT Treasurer Bill Young presented a $5000 check to Madison County Commissioner David Dhume to be used toward completion of the Ohio to Erie Trail through London and on to Franklin County.
