Involvement Members of local Boy Scout
Troops have been very active in trail activities. Life Scout
Chris Slagle of Boy Scout Troop 104 organized the Strawberry Festival
Bicycle Tour in 2002 as his Eagle Scout Project. FMCPT hopes to
be able to continue this tradition. Troop 104 has also been
instrumental in brush clearing and burning, under the leadership of
Scoutmaster Harry Yokum, Paul Thompson, Steve McClaskie, Alex Dunkley
and Craig Smith.
The Scouts of Troop 102 have also been very active. Robert West
earned his Eagle Scout badge by coordinating trail cleanup
activities. In addition, Brian Bingman and Troop 102 have made a
commitment to help maintain and clean the trail segment between Maple
Street and Spring Valley Road as a part of our "Adopt a Trail"
program. Thanks to Assistant Scoutmaster Jerry Grigsby and
Scoutmaster Casey Elliott for their leadership.
The Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails would also like to
recognize the late Bill Betchel for donating and painting the "Adopt a
Trail" signs that are posted at both the Maple Street and Spring Valley
Road entrances to the trail.
Recently, Matt Grigsby of Troop 102 has taken on the development of a
mini-park as his Eagle Scout project. This project will include a
small shelter structure to be located approximately ½ miles from
the Senior Center. Matt will be responsible for designing the
mini-park, and coordinating all construction details. The
mini-park is being funded by a donation from Dr. David Kipp of the
London Animal Hospital.
