Trailhead Shelter Julia Cumming of the
Madison Soil and Water Conservation District, along with the Madison
County Commissioners, have been successful in obtaining numerous grants
from the NatureWorks program and other agencies for development of the
trailhead shelter structure, future expansion of parking facilities,
and future enhancements to restroom facilities. In addition,
there have been many contributions from local businesses and others in
the community.
Stanley Electric got the ball rolling with a generous $500 donation
toward completion of the shelter structure. Thanks to FMCPT
member Jack McDowell, who was able to secure a donation of 20 yards of
concrete from Larry Randall of Buckeye Ready Mix located in
Reynoldsburg, Ohio. The Madison Correctional Institution, under
the direction of Officers Terry Shaw and Kenny Davis, provided the
labor to build the structure. Thanks to FMCPT member Frank Slagle
for creating the design and technical drawings for the information
kiosk. Thanks to Dave Walters of Frames by Choice for the design,
construction, and installation of this glass-enclosed bulletin
board. Thanks to Mike Adkins of the Farm Science Review for
donating 20 Dwarf Alberta pine trees, and thanks to Richard McKenzie
and Julia Cumming for getting the trees planted. Thanks to Todd
Lane, Executive Director of the Madison County Senior Center, for the
donation of four picnic tables to the shelter facility. Thanks to
Kathy Husek Budding Bloomers Garden Club for donating and planting of a
blue spruce at the trailhead. The most recent plans for the
trailhead area include clearing an area for future landscaping and
planting of a prairie plant display by Jack McDowell.
The entire trailhead area is developing into something that our
community can be very proud of.
