To clarify, the $550,000 mentioned in this article is earmarked for the Camp Chase segment of the Ohio to Erie Trail. The Camp Chase Rail Trail will pick up where the Prairie Grass Trail ends at Wilson Road in Madison County, and will eventually connect to the Battelle-Darby Creek Metro Park in Georgesville, and on to Columbus. Madison County is very fortunate that Columbus Metro Parks has lobbied on our behalf for this funding. They will also coordinate the land acquisition and construction of this 3.5-mile segment of the trail from Wilson Road to the Madison County line near Olmsted Road. We thank them for their hard work, and look forward to the day when the connection is completed! In the mean time, the corridor from Maple Street to Wilson Road in Madison County will be completed in the spring of 2005 with a crushed limestone base. In an attempt to complete paving of this segment, the Madison County Park District, the City of London and the Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails have recently worked together to submit three grant applications for funding. We should know by July of 2005 if we have been approved for this funding. Stay tuned! |
