The Ohio to Erie Trail is a paved trail linking Cincinnati, Columbus and Cleveland, following lands formerly occupied by railroads and canals. Hikers, bikers and other groups including bird watchers, horseback riders, cross-country skiers, and nature lovers will be able to enjoy this Trail as they pass through quiet woods, lush fields, charming small towns and dynamic urban centers.

The Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails would like to thank the Board of Directors of the Ohio to Erie Trail Fund, along with the late Ed Honton, for their dedication and support in completing the critical link of this trail through Madison County.

We are very fortunate that our Executive Director and original founder of FMCPT, Wayne Roberts is also on the Board of Directors of the Ohio to Erie Trail Fund.

Ohio to Erie Trail Maps

Ohio to Erie Trail maps can be viewed here on their website.

Printed maps covering all 300 miles of The Ohio to Erie Trail are free and can be ordered here by paying shipping and handling of $2.75 per map kit. Each of the four maps is 8 by 25 inches, folded into six panels, featuring a map, mileage, and a written description of the trail section. (Click here for tips for reading the new maps)

In addition to these hard-copy maps, the IGotABike Ohio to Erie Trail Guide Version 2 is still available. Winner of the 2013 RUBY award for the most innovative mobile applications presented by the Ohio Travel Association, it is a downloadable interactive document that you can take with you on the trail on your digital device.

The Fall 2013 Issue of the Rails to Trails Conservancy magazine features the Ohio to Erie Trail (and the Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails).

Clevelanders Carolyn Lewis Cocchiarale and Guy Cocchiarale recently completed a guide to the 300-mile bike route that links Lake Erie and the Ohio River.

The opening ceremony of the Alum Creek Trail section of The Ohio to Erie Trail (from Innis Park to Sunbury Rd.) took place on Friday, July 15, 2011.   During the ceremony, historic Bridgeview Bridge was dedicated in memory of Ed Honton, founder of the Ohio to Erie Trail.   (Click the banner above to view the photo gallery.)

Ed Honton, creator of the Ohio to Erie Trail, passed away on October 12, 2005

"Ed Honton was the inspiration for the Ohio to Erie Trail, and has energetically worked toward completion of the anticipated 453-mile trail for more than a decade. An avid cyclist and promoter of this increasingly popular recreational activity, he has provided leadship to numerous state and local cycling groups, including the Governor's Advisory Committee on Bicycling, the Clean Ohio Trails Fund Advisory Board, and is co-founder of the Ohio Bicycle Federation. He has pedaled countless miles across the state, helped develop numerous other trails, and created trail maps and publications, including 36 Bike Routes in Central Ohio."
