Progress Update on Closing the Gap Fundraiser

Dear Friends,                                                                                                                             March 19, 2017

Phase 1 of the Ohio to Erie Trail gap in London is moving forward –

but it needs your help!

The Madison County Commissioners have stepped forward and purchased the available property. The previous property owner, local resident Kelley Manns, generously donated about 20% of the property for a trail corridor. The Commissioners applied for a Clean Ohio grant to help reimburse part of the remaining costs. FMCPT paid for the property survey, appraisal, and closing costs.

FMCPT volunteers have now cleared the corridor of brush and trees, and with the help of the County Engineer and crew, the brush has been chipped. FMCPT volunteers have also hauled away the firewood. The corridor is ready for the bulldozer to clear the tree stumps and prepare the trail foundation.

The County Engineer has estimated it will cost about $78,000 to construct the trail from Maple Street to Walnut Street. The FMCPT Board has earmarked just under $20,000 for construction. The Ohio to Erie Trail Fund Board has generously donated 10% of the construction costs. Several individual donors have contributed a total of $1,372.50 so far. FMCPT submitted for a Doppelt Grant through Rails-to-Trail Conservancy for a minimum of $20,000. However, RTT recently announced that 200 organizations have applied for this $100,000 pot which is divided into four winning applications. We will know around June 3rd if we have been awarded any of the allocation.

So, we are very much in need of your help. We have raised about 37% of the construction funds needed to complete Phase 1. Just click here to find out more information and then you can decide if you will donate.

Thank you for any help you can give to close/narrow the gaps in the Ohio to Erie Trail.

Sincerely Yours,

Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails
