2013 FMCPT Fall Ride: Pittsburg, PA to Washington, DC

In 2013, the annual FMCPT fall ride covered over 330 miles in 6 days on the Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Canal Trail from Pittsburg, PA to Washington, DC.

The GAP trail has a packed crushed limestone surface, built mainly on abandoned rail beds, offering a smooth ride. The C&O Canal towpath trail was built for mules and not railroads, resulting in a slightly rougher ride. The C&O Canal towpath is a National Historic Park, and efforts are made to preserve important historic, cultural, and natural aspects of the area.

Thanks to Alan Knowles, who spent countless hours researching the trip and making reservations for our evening accommodations. Many thanks to Wayne Roberts and Jerry Miller, who followed us from town to town and hauled our luggage in support vehicles. Thanks Jerry for bringing your personal vehicle to do the hauling! Thanks also to Dan & Cindy Hepp, who provided a passenger van and trailer for the trip, and to Willie and Melonie McCormic, for letting us use your trailer!
