Camping in Madison County, Ohio

2011

is the bicentennial year for London, Ohio, the county seat for Madison County. To help celebrate the event, various activities are planned throughout the year, especially over the Fourth of July weekend. The Friends of Madison County Parks and Trails will sponsor a family bicycle tour from London to Brighton. This fun ride will start at Cowling Park on Main Street and Park Avenue from 7-9 a.m. on Saturday, July 2nd. It will follow rural roads through the mostly flat to slightly rolling hills, past many farms and scenic countryside. Take your time and enjoy the sites along the way, such as the London State Fish Hatchery. Rural Brighton, Ohio, is a bit more laid back than its namesake in England, but enjoy the rest and refreshments when you arrive. The return trip to London will be by a different route to keep your adventure interesting. There are stops at various activities, including the Madison County Historical Society and the quilt display at the First Presbyterian Church. At the end of the ride, there will be food vendors in the cool shade at Cowling Park. Your total round-trip will be about 28 miles, should you decide to include the rural Brighton loop.

The $15 pre-registration fee includes:
   • detailed tour map,
   • identification number (which must be displayed at all times),
   • support services, and
   • food stop

Special commemorative London Bicentennial t-shirts are available for $15 and polo shirts for $25. They can be pre-ordered for pick up on the day of the ride or pre-shipped for an additional $5 shipping fee. Printable order forms are available on www.fmcpt.com. An embroidered Bicentennial patch is available for $10 or free with a Bicentennial Membership. For more information, visit the London Bicentennial website at www.ci.london.oh.us/bicentennial.

All pre-registrations must be received by Saturday, June 25th. We plan our tours by the number of pre-registrations received, so please help us out by signing up early. We are sorry but refunds cannot be made after June 25th if you are unable to ride after you have pre-registered. Registrations received after June 25th, including the day of the tour, will be $20.
